Am 25.4. widmen wir uns dem Thema Selbstermächtigung.
In der Kunst sind wir sozusagen die eigenen Machthaber. Es bleibt uns komplett selbst überlassen, wie und was wir gestalten.
Wir üben im Gestalten, wie es ist, selbst Verantwortung zu übernehmen und plötzlich erweitert sich das Feld wo wir denn eigentlich überall was ändern könnten. Vielleicht wird uns aber auch bewusst, dass wir zwar eh könnten aber gar nicht wollen. Im Erfahren des "eigenen Meisters" in der Kunst integrieren wir diese Freiheit auch fürs Leben.

We may know what we like and dislike, but art reveals a far deeper layer of consciousness. Why we like and dislike for example.

In creating, we connect with the unconscious. We open a door — and something in us dares to show itself.
Sometimes what emerges feels obvious. Sometimes it needs to surface again and again until we feel ready to receive it.

In the act of creating, we forget the world around us and return to ourselves. That is how the self feels seen — and from that feeling of being seen, it finds the courage to appear.

Take one participant in my workshop, who created a collage filled with images connected to her work. She knew she was busy — but in that moment, she realized for herself that the topic was literally consuming her.

That is just one example of how it works: the insight is different for everyone, and there are no rules or universal conclusions. Your art is your very personal answer to your very personal interior.

.There is a famous quote by the American author Kurt Vonnegut:
"Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpture, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow."

When we paint, we move through a succession of states: an idea forms, we try to bring it from the inside out — onto the canvas.
We fail. We fix. We suffer and rejoice and fail again. We put something of ourselves into it that we can't quite name. And in the end, there is something that wasn't there before — something we made.

Whether we're satisfied with it or not, there is this feeling: that we brought something into existence, and that in doing so, we experienced our own becoming. How we meet failure. How we meet success. How we meet ourselves within the process.

When we dedicate ourselves to an art over a longer period of time, something else happens too. We don't only make things — we become something. A painter. A dancer. An actor.

But getting better means moving closer to the ability to express the truest version of ourselves and our ideas. So in the end, it was never really just about the art.
It was about becoming who we are.

Obviously I always come back to Oscar Wilde but apparently it is a quote from The Picture of Dorian Gray: "Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter."

I was reflecting on why I love to paint some people and some not although I love them.... and... the answer is very personal. 🤓

And this video is short, I really need my phone for the reference and the music, how shall I film the process. 😅

Art may seem like just the topping on the ice cream when it comes to our daily needs, but it's definitely more than that — when we've had a challenging day and enjoy a film, when we're sad, or even when we just need to clean the house and put on some music.
Or just think of the difference between a room with or without any art on the walls.

It's about our very daily life, and it adds humanity, connection, joy, beauty, and comfort to our lives.

Which art form you couldn’t live without?

A sneak peek at the photo shoot I did for my new website with the wonderful soul. from souls.art.work!

I hate posing and I hardly have any mirrors at home. It's kinda like Russian roulette how I look when I leave the house, and I'm always surprised when I see myself in photos.

In this case I was positively surprised. She captured me doing my thing — without posing, without fake-looking — authenticity is what it's all about.💘

I thought I'd need business cards and so I started from scratch, not knowing what to put there.
I changed the "titles" of who I am several times and it all felt wrong. And suddenly it clicked. There is this value I carry that was shouting from within, opposing to be defined — as it needs to be free and is allergic to being put in a box.
I guess that's also the reason why I'm no fan of too much goal-setting and manifestation.
I prefer to remain fluid. Which doesn't mean I don't believe in vision and goals. My goal is simply to keep my intuition alive as best I can — and keep trusting.

Maybe Oscar Wilde ment something similar whennhe wrote:
"If you want to be a grocer, or a general, or a politician, or a judge, you will invariably become it; that is your punishment. If you never know what you want to be, if you live what some might call the dynamic life but what I will call the artistic life, if each day you are unsure of who you are and what you know you will never become anything, and that is your reward."

In the Bible, one of Adam’s first tasks was to name all the animals. And we all know the endless descriptions of who is whose son. It’s never just “someone” — people are called by their names.

We tend to feel slightly offended when someone forgets our name, and appreciated when someone remembers it and calls us by it. It’s a simple but powerful form of being seen.

Some believe that even the meaning of a name can influence a person’s character. “Nomen est omen” comes from Latin times B.C., and if we believe that words can function like spells, there might be something to it.

My name means peace, and I can truly identify with that. My signature consists of my initials, but at the same time it can also be read as “MIR”, which in Slavic languages also means peace.

How do you feel about the portrait? Does it change something, if you know it's "Edgar"?

I still remember the excitement so vividly. It was a portrait of me.
I could hardly believe it. Having a portrait of oneself felt so out of reach, almost unreal. And the fact that someone could paint so realistically seemed like magic.

There was the awe for technical skill, the mystery of capturing a person, the emotional charge of being seen, and the powerful transformation from human to image — all experienced through the eyes of a seven-year-old girl.

I guess I’ve been fascinated by portraits ever since.

I found this artist on Instagram and started thinking about the beauty in his melancholic, beautiful aesthetic. No heaviness in the melancholy. No fake positivity — just charm.

I also thought about the many comments I’ve received about my own paintings:
“I like it, but it reminds me of melancholy, and I don’t want to hang it on my walls as it will make me sad”

As someone who needs to sell, I often thought to myself: Maybe I should just paint something more cheerful so people will buy it.

I tried. But it doesn’t work. Because it’s not my personal expression.
Instead, it’s about the beauty in the melancholy.

By painting humans in their vulnerable states — melancholic about the brokenness of this world — I show that there is beauty in it at the same time.

If you feel something when you look at the emotions I paint, it means we are connected through that feeling. That’s what art is about — showing us that we are not alone, but together in our collective emotions.

If you don’t want to hang it on your wall, I understand. That’s why I’ve created pocket-sized fine art prints — for your personal space or as a bookmark.

I remember my teenage years so vividly — it feels like I remember every second of them.
Maybe that’s why I have so much compassion for today’s teens.

Art gives us the perfect playground and experimental field for these abilities.

The to-do list doesn’t get any shorter,
and at some point it starts to feel like paralysis.
You think there’s no point in starting,
because you won’t manage everything anyway.

Psychology says something surprising:
Just do something. Anything. Even if it's not directly related to your to do list.
Not perfectly.
Not productively. Just get into motion.

That’s how creativity works too.
Sort your pens.
Scribble all over a page.
Glue meaningless scraps together.

Du denkst, es bringt nichts anzufangen, weil du ohnehin keine Chance hast, alles zu schaffen.

Die Psychologie sagt etwas Überraschendes:
Mach einfach irgendwas.
Auch wenn es nicht direkt mit den To-dos zu tun hat.

Durch Aktivierung kommt Bewegung ins System – und plötzlich fällt auch alles Weitere leichter.

Genauso ist es im kreativen Prozess.
Du willst einen Roman schreiben oder ein Bild malen, fühlst dich aber eingeschüchtert.

Perfektionismus und innerer Kritiker verderben dir schon vor dem ersten Strich den Spaß.

Dann fang irgendwo an.
Sortiere die Stifte.
Kritzel ein Blatt voll.
Klebe sinnlose Seitenschnipsel zusammen.
Und dann schau 🧚🏻‍♂️

The to-do list doesn’t get any shorter,
and at some point it starts to feel like paralysis.
You think there’s no point in starting,
because you won’t manage everything anyway.

Psychology says something surprising:
Just do something. Anything. Even if it's not directly related to your to do list.
Not perfectly.
Not productively. Just get into motion.

That’s how creativity works too.
Sort your pens.
Scribble all over a page.
Glue meaningless scraps together.
And then watch 🧚🏻‍♂️

After receiving my diploma in art therapy on Sunday, after five years of studying, I realized that it’s almost exactly three years since I stopped working in a corporate office.

After school, I studied economics. I achieved everything that was within those predefined goals, but I knew it had never been the ultimate goal for me. So I quit and stepped into the unknown.

I got a job in an elderly care home that paid my bills, and working with the residents was a real pleasure. Unfortunately, my position was cut.
Tomorrow is the day I will have to say goodbye to all the lovely 80+ people there and start my life as a certified and self employed art therapist — without an actual Plan B.

And it feels good.
Through creating art, you get used to diving into the unknown and develop trust that this is actually a good place to be.

It strengthens intuition — and by listening to our intuition, we become less dependent on external influences.

Then, of course, there’s the idea of indie itself:
making art by your own rules, not dictated by mainstream expectations, trends, or the pressure to perform.

And yes — it also has something to do with the music I love.
What we loosely call indie rock isn’t just a genre, it’s an attitude.
Indie sleaze, for example, was one of the last fashion statements rooted in a lifestyle.

In the 90s, we identified through the music we listened to — and dressed accordingly.
Music, aesthetics, and way of life were deeply intertwined.

Today, aesthetics and trends often exist detached from meaning.
Back then, messy, raw, emotional wasn’t just a look — it was a signal.

Indie sleaze in the early 2000s may have been the last trend that truly stood for something.

Do you see the woman on the right side of my collage?
Have you seen her before? Maybe you have — she’s taken from the painting “Liberty Leading the People” by Delacroix, painted in 1830.

Of course, it has something to do with revolution (we won’t dive too deep into history lessons here), but what I really want to share is the story behind the collage magic.

I sat down without any concrete intention, simply trying to collect my thoughts about the project. Somehow, it turned into my signature piece for the INDIE Art Club.

Mainly because, at the moment when I didn’t know what else to add, this painting appeared. And it was just perfect for the meaning of this club.

It’s all about liberty, independence from rigid systems, intuition, and listening to the voice within.

The voice that told me to pick up that one book — where I found “Liberty Leading the People.”

The quiet rebellion starts on February 15th.

Es braucht Offenheit.
Die Bereitschaft, mit den Gegebenheiten des Lebens zu spielen.
Und vor allem die Fähigkeit, zu spüren, was für einen selbst gerade stimmig und hilfreich ist.

In der Kunst dürfen wir genau diesen Muskel trainieren.
Das Hinhören und Hinspüren, das Lauschen auf Bauchgefühle und Eingebungen,
ist dem Kunstschaffen inhärent.

Gleichzeitig erfahren wir in der Kunst Selbstermächtigung:
Wir sind die Erschaffer unseres eigenen Universums.
Und – in gewisser Weise – auch unserer selbst.

Im INDIE ART CLUB wollen wir dieses Bauchgefühl trainieren.

Denn in einer Welt, in der man nicht mehr weiß, was man glauben kann, ist das Bauchgefühl oft unser verlässlichster Wegbegleiter.

2016 😎

I see it's a trend to look back at 2016 and while I don't know why exactly (we could do a decade throw back every year 🤔...maybe we do) I've realized that for me 2016 really was an important year.

I felt the urge to live a creative life and tried everything. From going back to guitar and piano to drawing, photography and interiors.

Also I went to quite a lot of gigs and also I got my back tattoo in Hamburg at @aeltestetaetowierstube 💕

I even left Europe for the first time for a business trip to Taiwan!

Not to mention that I saw Alex Turner for the first time live and he probably couldn’t see for the lights but he was staring straight at me.😁

Also a lot of other things, yea..2016.. was a year...

For this, I glued down paper from magazines and began working abstractly, until a form slowly revealed itself.

I then tried to let the octopus emerge from the mess—without adding too much detail, so it could remain abstract.

I’m not quite sure what to think of the result, but it was definitely fun.
